Project description

Reforest'Action invites you to accompany the afforestation of this neglected agricultural area in the Indre-et-Loire department.

The project at a glance

  • Number of trees to be planted: 8,075
  • Plantation area: 5.5 hectares
  • Species planted: maritime pine, laricio pine, Scots pine, birch
  • Project type: Afforestation of an abandonned agricultural plot of land
  • Certification: PEFC
  • Season of plantation: Winter 2020/2021

Context

Located on the edge of a forest massif, the plots of Chanceaux-près-Loches are former agricultural lands that have been abandoned.

The owner wishes to afforest his plots in order to extend the continuity of vegetation necessary to shelter the local biodiversity. The current hedgerows will be preserved with the same aim in mind.

This type of multifunctional project offers many advantages. First of all, it will accommodate a diverse biodiversity with multiple habitat requirements.

Secondly, the mix of hardwood and softwood will provide better resistance to climatic hazards.

Finally, the planting of a new wood like this one will create a real carbon sink that helps fight global warming.
