Project description

Reforest'Action proposes to invest to restore a degraded massif.

The project at a glance

  • Number of trees to plant: 8678 trees
  • Planting Area: 5.6 hectares
  • Species planted: Douglas fir (74%), Maritime pine (14%) and Pine laricio (12%)
  • Type of project: planting on dying coppice

Context

This ageing coppice is affected by chestnut ink. Indeed, trees are colonized by filamentous micro-organisms, similar to fungi (Oomycetes), called Phytophtora. The pathogen precursor of the weakening of its host, slows its growth and ripening of its fruits. The leaves are reduced and yellowed. Often, a blackish liquid oozes on the base of the trunk, reminiscent of ink and giving this name to the disease.

The "ink" affects western forests of France, even if it remains rather rare, its presence is frequently observed since 1999 and its strong power of contagion worries experts.

The operation is aimed at planting a variety of species, douglas fir, maritime pine and laricio pine. This plantation will revitalize the wooded state and allow to welcome a varied biodiversity while allowing the production of timber.
