Coupling Farming with Planting Trees

Forêts

Fruit trees provide supplemental income and fruit that we can eat during the harvest season. In my cotton field, I have planted Mango Trees because I can easily sell mangoes at the market. All around the field, I planted Jatropha shrubs, and once they are grown, they will protect my crops from animals. The problem with the trees is that they do not produce fruit right away so we have to wait as long as 4 or 5 years before we have a crop. So in the meantime, I will keep my cotton crop because it allows me to buy what I need every day. I am very anxious to be able to completely replace my cotton crop with mangoes because I will earn more money. Also, I have 11 children who really like mangoes!
