An urgent need for funding to restore and preserve forest ecosystems

At the current rate and funding, it will only be possible to intervene in 8 to 12% of the metropolitan area of forests by 2050. The French High Council for the Climate is thus sounding the alarm in its 2022 annual report entitled "Overcome the findings, implement the solutions," while he also draws up a severe inventory of the impacts of climate change in France. We must therefore act quickly in France as well as in the world - as also underlined by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in its "2022 Annual Report".

Blue Carbon Ecosystems: A “Nature-Based Solution” to fight Climate Change

Blue Carbon Ecosystems: A “Nature-Based Solution” to fight Climate Change

The term “Blue Carbon” refers to the carbon stored in coastal and marine ecosystems, such as seagrasses, salt marshes, mangrove swamps, peatlands, and kelp beds. Blue carbon ecosystems are particularly important for their capacity to store carbon and are considered as a key component of nature-based solutions to climate change. It can also provide many other significant benefits - such as socio-economic benefits, increased biodiversity, or cleaner water. Unfortunately, they are some of the most threatened ecosystems on Earth. 35% of mangroves have disappeared in only 20 years for instance.

Companies can save the Amazon: Stéphane Hallaire's opinion column

The figures are indisputable: deforestation continues to accelerate worldwide, particularly in Brazil, where 20% of the Amazonian forest has already been destroyed. He expresses this in this opinion column published in Les Echos, France's leading business daily newspaper, on 5 August 2020.
