Carbon Neutrality

For the world to be carbon neutral, there is only one option: drastically
cut our greenhouse gas emissions as fast as possible and leverage the mechanics of carbon
offsetting by funding the preservation and creation of carbon sinks throughout the world.

An excellent carbon sink can readily be found on land.
Forests are a prominent natural solution for extracting CO2 from the atmosphere and storing it.
Reforest’Action proposes projects for preserving forests and even expanding their storage capacity.

These projects are divided into 3 categories needing funding:

Forests preservation in Tropical Zones

This solution funds multi-dimensional projects aimed at fighting deforestation in under-pressure regions.

Summary:

Unit: Carbon Credit / 1 carbon credit = 1 tonne CO2-eq
VCS certified + CCB (or equivalent)
REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) projects
In tropical zones

What is a REDD+ project?

Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) projects in tropical zones seek to preserve forested areas. They can also involve local populations in the sustainable management of natural forest resources.

Forests creation in Tropical Zones

This is a far-reaching solution to tackle global issues and is adapted for businesses with ambitious, long-term climate strategies. It involves pre-funding the creation of new forests for capturing and sequestering carbon dioxide, which will generate carbon credits over an average of 20-50 years.

Summary:

Unit: Carbon Credits generated periodically (on average every 5 years) / 1 carbon credit = 1 tonne CO2-eq
Projects expected to be certified to the VCS or Gold Standard + CCB (or equivalent)
ARR (Afforestation – Reforestation – Revegetation) projects
In tropical zones

What is an ARR project?

Afforestation, Reforestation, Revegetation (ARR for short) refers to a category of projects that aim to restore plant cover to different ecosystems, while creating numerous socio-economic and environmental benefits.

Forests restoration and planting in France

The Label Bas-Carbone (Low Carbon certificate) is the only official certification that quantifies the carbon dioxide stored by forestry projects in France.
The funding of a Label Bas-Carbone certified forestry project with Reforest’Action boosts the capture and sequestration of CO2 in France.

Summary:

Unit: ER (Emission reduction) 1 ER = 1 tonne CO2-eq
Label Bas-Carbone certificate issued by the French Ministry for the Ecological Transition

What is a Low Carbon certified Reforest’Action project?

Our Label Bas-Carbone certified forestry projects help store atmospheric carbon dioxide over the long term by planting diverse tree species.
Reforest’Action is developing its own Low Carbon certified forestry projects with help from its network of French project initiators:

Afforestation projects – expanding forest cover to abandoned farmland, overgrown areas and meadows.
Reforestation projects – restoring forests affected by a natural disaster.

The many benefits generated by the projects

In the push to making the world carbon neutral, these solutions are principally aimed at showing how carbon storage is a valuable resource in this quest.
But that does not mean there are no other benefits flowing from each project.
