Institutional dialogues and council

With more than 10 years experience, our work to restore the world’s forests and foster the development of a regenerative economy is deployed through ongoing collaboration with thousands of local actors. In the context of the climate emergency and the need to scale up restoration, Reforest'Action also contributes to the global forest and climate dialogue alongside international institutional actors and a variety of public and private stakeholders, with the aim of accelerating the achievement of the global forestry objectives by 2030.

INVOLVEMENT IN INTERNATIONAL INITIATIVES

Circular Bioeconomy Alliance

The Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (CBA) was chartered by His Majesty Charles III in 2020 with the purpose of accelerating the transition to a climate-neutral, inclusive circular bioeconomy that thrives in harmony with nature.

Following Reforest’Action's accession to the CBA in March 2021, Stéphane Hallaire, President of Reforest’Action, was appointed Livings Labs Coordinator in early 2022. These living labs are forest landscape restoration projects intended to expand local and value chain circular bioeconomy. In this capacity, Stéphane Hallaire regularly promotes the impact of bioeconomy at international events, such as COPs and World Forestry Congresses, or in bilateral meetings with native leaders and government officials.

European Union

Reforest’Action is involved in the implementation of the European Commission's initiative to plant 3 billion additional trees by 2030. In addition to the technical support provided by Reforest’Action regarding the tree registration and mapping system, Reforest’Action contributes to the initiative by deploying afforestation and agroforestry projects throughout Europe.

As part of the initiative, Reforest'Action contributes to the deployment of afforestation and agroforestry projects throughout Europe. Within the framework of this initiative, Reforest'Action also takes part in events organized by the Commission or where the Commission participates, to share the vision of afforestation issues on the continent. Finally, as co-organizer of the Global Forest Summit, Reforest'Action regularly invites the European Commissioner for the Environment to the high-level exchanges that take place during this international event.

United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration

In August 2021, Reforest’Action was named a partner in the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. This unprecedented initiative aims to develop and drive an international initiative to rehabilitate natural ecosystems to provide a sustainable future for generations to come.

Reforest’Action contributes to this initiative on various scales: providing expertise to the Best Practices Taskforce, (re)afforesting one million hectares of (agro)forest ecosystems by 2030, building a generation of reforestation entrepreneurs, and contributing to the global forestry dialogue by co-organizing the Global Forest Summit.

Forest Declaration Platform

Established in 2017, the Forest Declaration Platform is a multi-stakeholder endeavor gathering approximately 200 official supporters of the New York Declaration on Forests: governments, businesses, NGOs, and native communities.

The Platform, which involves Reforest’Action, is committed to being one of the most comprehensive multi-stakeholder spaces for collaboration and action on forestry. Its member organizations are committed to actively contributing to achieve the global forestry goals by 2030.

1T.org

A World Economic Forum (WEF) initiative, 1T.org aims to help conserve, restore and grow one billion trees by 2030. To accomplish this task, 1T engages the private sector, facilitate multi-stakeholder partnerships in critical regions, and supports innovation and eco-entrepreneurship on a local level. As part of the 1T ecosystem, Reforest’Action contributes to the movement’s drive by presenting its leaders at the Global Forest Summit, providing forestry expertise at 1T and WEF events, and contributing as an expert to regional challenge boards.

CORPORATE DIALOGUE AND ADVOCACY

Global Forest Summit

Co-founded and co-organized by Reforest’Action, the Global Forest Summit is the world's largest annual meeting dedicated to forests. A civil society-led event guided by a high-level steering committee, the Summit assembles a wide range of international forest stakeholders: government officials, international organizations, business and NGO leaders, scientists, climate activists and native representatives.

This major global event is intended to be a space for dialogue between diverse stakeholders and for institutional advocacy to accelerate action towards the global forest objectives contained in the New York Declaration on Forests and the UN Strategic Plan for Forests.

World Forestry Congress

Organized every 6 years by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Forestry Congress is the largest institutional gathering devoted to forests. Reforest’Action was present at the 2022 edition, held in Seoul, Korea, and participated in high-level sessions on global forestry issues alongside heads of leading forestry organizations and stakeholders. Notably, we highlighted the enormous potential of the private sector in the development of a circular bioeconomy and the funding of global forestry issues.

COP, Climate Week and worldwide events

Eager to dynamically contribute to the global dialogue on forestry, climate and biodiversity issues, Reforest’Action is a regular attendee of major events such as the COP, Climate Week and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Congress. On such occasions, Reforest’Action shares its vision, expertise and experience in forest restoration, agroforestry and value chain transformation with public and private high-level stakeholders. These events are also prime opportunities to further develop relationships with forestry stakeholders.

Bilateral dialogues

local stakeholders: NGOs, municipalities, social enterprises, universities, among others. Alongside this field work, Reforest’Action nurtures a dialogue with public representatives, such as government officials and native communities in certain countries through bilateral meetings.
