A new technical and scientific committee in Reforest'Action

Following the formation of an ethics committee and a temperate forest technical committee within the company, this new technical and scientific committee completes the range of resources aimed at strengthening Reforest'Action's expertise.

Consolidating the scientific value of the projects carried out

The committee will validate Reforest'Action's approach to forest preservation, restoration and creation; verify the data used to select and define the framework of the various projects in tropical zones; evaluate the procedures used to deploy these projects; and identify the medium and long-term impact of Reforest'Action's projects on local populations and ecosystems.

The committee is composed of specialists in forest, climate, carbon and biodiversity issues, coming from various backgrounds:

  • Karen Holl, Professor of Environmental Studies at the University of California
  • Thomas Crowther, ecosystem ecologist and founder of the Crowther Lab scientific research laboratory at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich
  • Aïda Cuní-Sanchez, Associate Professor of Environmental Sciences at the Norwegian University for Life Sciences
  • Claude Garcia, scientist in the Group for Forest Management and Development at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich
  • Christophe Besacier, forestry technician and coordinator of the Forest and Landscape Restoration Facility at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
  • Susan Chomba, Director at the World Resources Institute (WRI)

"The establishment of this committee will allow us to strengthen the quality of our projects and our approach to tropical forest restoration," explains Arnaud Guidal, head of the international forestry department at Reforest'Action. "It will be an opportunity to address several major issues such as the integration of new technologies in the implementation of our projects, the best practices to adopt when deploying them in the field or the evaluation of the social or biophysical impact of our actions beyond 5 years."
