Project description

Reforest'Action and its partner Sylva Nova invite you to participate in the planting of hedgerows on cultivated farmland in Belgium!

The project at a glance

  • Number of trees to be planted: 1,700
  • Plantation area: 3 hectares
  • Species planted: various hardwoods (blackthorn, hawthorn, viburnum, wild apple and pear, mountain ash, dogwood, field maple, hazelnut, wild rose, buckthorn, black cherry, charcoal, borage, crack willow and basket willow)
  • Project type: hedgerows planting
  • Planting season: Spring 2022

The origin of the project

In Belgium, this project takes root on Walloon farmland. The objective of the project is to introduce hedgerows along this plot of land in Manhay Grand Menil.

A total of 1,700 trees are being introduced into the agricultural landscape to form linear hedges and thus improve soil fertility. As natural windbreaks, the hedges provide islands of coolness and sometimes food for grazing animals. The afforestation of this agricultural land will generate benefits on a larger scale. The trees will provide income for farmers, enrich the landscape and help combat climate change by storing carbon.
