Project description

The project at a glance :

  • Number of trees to be planted: 8000 trees
  • Planting area: 10 hectares
  • Species planted: Oak, cedar and forest fruit trees
  • Type of project: Restoration of a stand degraded by storm and disease
  • Planting date: January to March 2020
  • Certification: PEFC

Context :

This 10ha plot is an old stand of maritime pines and a coppice of chestnut trees. The maritime pines having suffered the storm of 1999 and the chestnut coppice being attacked by a fungus, the forest is now withering. The renewal of this plot will be done with species better adapted to the soil types and climate. Planting will be done in islands, strips or in the open, depending on the location, to preserve certain trees of interest such as oaks and to minimize the impact on the soil.

This tree planting project will allow ecological and landscape diversification through the planting of various species. The establishment of these species will make it possible to increase the reception of a great biodiversity while creating in the long term timber storing carbon. The diversity of species will allow a greater resilience of the massif in the face of intensifying climatic hazards.
