Context and Benefits

The landscape of groves and separate hedgerows tends to disappear. Some parts of the Hauts-de-France are historically formed from these landscapes, but the modernisation of agriculture, which requires larger, more open spaces, has led to land consolidation. Hedges have been removed to increase the surface area of the plots. Today, many are working to restore these hedges, which offer many advantages.

This project will allow to reconstitute a bocage landscape by planting hedges. The latter have many advantages since they shelter an important biodiversity whose individuals, birds and mammals for example can be used as crop auxiliaries by naturally controlling pests. Hedges, by their rooting, fix the soil by limiting its erosion and regulating its humidity. They are also natural barriers protecting crops from prevailing winds and possibly from pesticides used in the surrounding area.
