Project description

Reforest'Action invites you to contribute to the reforestation of a degraded plot of land in the Normandy French department!

The project at a glance

  • Number of trees to be planted: 3,360
  • Plantation area: 3 hectares
  • Species planted: sycamore maple, alder, black walnut
  • Project type: restoration of a stand degraded by a fungal attack
  • Plantation season: Fall 2020

Context

This plot is located near Deauville, in the Normandy department, in the Malou woods. This forest of young ash trees has suffered successive attacks from a disease, the chalarosis, which has decimated the trees, imposing the need of plantations to reconstitute a healthy forest.

Chalarosis of the ash tree causes a rapid dieback of the trees with risks of falling branches. This "disease" is very present in the forests of the northern part of France.

The introduction of new leafy species adapted to the environment will increase the reception of a great biodiversity. This mix of species will also make the massif more resilient to the increasing incidence of disease, insect pests and climatic hazards. It is also a means, in the long term, of storing carbon and combating climate change.
