Project description

Contribute to the reforestation of this insect-affected plot of land in the Tarn !

The project at a glance

  • Number of trees to be planted: 8,136
  • Plantation area: 37.15 hectares
  • Species planted: douglas fir, larch, common beech
  • Project type: reforestation following an insect attack
  • Planting season: Spring 2021

Context

In the Tarn department, this old monoculture composed of common spruces was attacked by bark beetles. These xylophagous insects dig galleries under the bark of the trees, which blocks the circulation of sap, causing the death of the affected specimens. As a result, the stand had to be harvested.

The 8,136 trees planted will allow the restoration, diversification and strengthening of the stand to face future climatic and biological hazards. This approach will also promote the enrichment of biodiversity within the forest. In addition, the trees will store carbon, thus contributing to the fight against global warming. Once mature, the stand will also be useful to produce timber, a sustainable resource.
