Project description

Take part in the management and natural regeneration of a forest in the Marne department!

The project at a glance

  • Number of trees to be financed: approximately 98,000
  • Area of the operation: 49 hectares
  • Main species promoted: Sessile oak, pedunculate oak, chestnut, black alder, hornbeam, aspen, birch
  • Type of project: support for the natural regeneration of a stand

Context

Not far from Épernay in the Marne department, these plots of land located in the communes of Saint-Martin-d'Ablois and Boursault, totalling 49 hectares, are presenting signs of natural regeneration. Assisted Natural Regeneration is a method that consists of accompanying young seedlings to adult trees. This method takes the form of silvicultural works that enhance the value of the trees in order to obtain a perennial stand.

In this stand, the trees promoted and valorized are mainly oaks (sessile and pedunculated) as well as various accompanying species such as chestnut, black alder, hornbeam, aspen and birch.

In this project, it is therefore proposed to finance various silvicultural operations to strengthen, conserve and improve these young seedlings with different interests, not only in terms of production but also in terms of "heritage" or "biodiversity". This project proposes various operations that will accompany the trees in place in order to perpetuate them. It will also make it possible to save trees necessary for biodiversity, bearers of habitats and to accompany future seedlings in order to guarantee the renewal of the forest. The project will therefore improve the multifunctionality of the forest, its potential for hosting biodiversity, its economic and carbon potential.
