Le projet vise à déterminer scientifiquement les conditions de régénération du pin des Alpes les plus favorables. L’étude s’étendra sur une durée comprise entre 5 et 10 ans afin qu'en croisant les facteurs de provenance avec les méthodes de plantation il soit possible d'établir un processus de régénération efficace et durable pour cette essence emblématique en difficulté. Le challenge est important car la réussite dépend fortement des conditions de chaque site, de la concurrence végétale, des conditions météorologiques, du sol et de l'influence du gibier. Les différentes méthodes testées devront montrer ce qui favorise le plus le succès de la repousse.

This Assisted Natural Regeneration project takes root in the heart of the Swiss Alps, at an altitude of 1,900 metres, in the municipalities of Guttannen and Innertkirchen in the canton of Bern.

Mountain forests face many challenges. Here, it's the Alpine pine or arole that's in trouble, as it's struggling to regenerate. Climate change is to blame. With increasingly mild temperatures at higher altitudes, the arole is facing growing competition from faster-growing species that did not previously thrive at this altitude. There is therefore a risk that this species, which was previously widespread in the area, will become very rare. However, this species is important in the region, as its habitat is home to a unique ecosystem with its own fauna and flora.

The aim of the project is to scientifically determine the most favorable conditions for the regeneration of Alpine pine. The study will last between 5 and 10 years, so that by cross-referencing provenance factors with planting methods, it will be possible to establish an effective and sustainable regeneration process for this emblematic species in difficulty. This is a major challenge, as success depends heavily on site-specific conditions, plant competition, weather and soil conditions, and the influence of game. The different methods tested will have to show what is most conducive to successful regrowth.

On site, Reforest'Action and the Senegalese association Nebeday are initiating a vast project of reforestation, mangrove planting and environmental education for schoolchildren. This approach will contribute to the restoration of forest ecosystems and the preservation of natural resources that are essential to the economic and social development of populations.

This project combines several tree species: palm trees planted in the Sangako forest, mangrove trees to restore maritime ecosystems as well as a variety of fruit and leguminous species that will be planted in school yards. It will contribute to the restoration of the forest cover, slowing down the degradation of ecosystems and supporting an environmental education program.

In Senegal, the forests are suffering the consequences of the country's demographic growth and economic development. Charcoal production, illegal wood trafficking and livestock farming are at the origin of the disappearance of the forest cover, accentuated by the multiplication of bush fires. In 60 years, Senegal has lost half of its forest area. The mangrove, an ecosystem essential to many marine and terrestrial species, is also threatened.

Nébéday, from the Wolof word "moringa" which means "tree of life with many virtues", is a Senegalese association for the participatory management of natural resources. With nearly 3 million trees planted since 2015, the association has gradually gained a reputation throughout the country. Today, it has become a major player in the restoration of ecosystems and in supporting populations towards sustainable practices.

Reforest'Action and the Senegalese association Nebeday are working together on a vast reforestation and mangrove restoration project. In the background, a large-scale environmental education project is being set up to raise awareness of environmental issues among schoolchildren. The approach will give birth to a generation of eco-citizens committed to the forest and the environment.

En Meurthe-et-Moselle dans le Grand-Est, la forêt d’Ormes a fait l’objet d’une forte coupe en 1975. Avec le temps, cette futaie de chêne s’est régularisée et le nouveau propriétaire souhaite favoriser le renouvellement de son peuplement en diversifiant les essences qui le composent. Afin d’accompagner une régénération naturelle déjà présente sur 35% de la surface, le projet prévoit de conserver les semenciers présents, de conduire des travaux sylvicoles pour valoriser la régénération présente et d’enrichir le peuplement d’essences diverses indigènes pour accélérer la régénération du massif. Cette diversité apportée viendra enrichir la biodiversité sur la zone et ainsi créer de nouveaux habitats. Les arbres valorisés seront plus résistants et le patrimoine génétique qui se développe sur les parcelles sera conservé.  À terme, le projet permettra d'augmenter la capacité d'accueil de la faune et flore locale et contribuera à la création d’un puit de carbone dans cette zone.

This oak grove is located in Meurthe et Moselle, 25 kilometres south of Nancy, in a highly agricultural area that suffered from heavy harvests in the 1980s. 

Today, to continue to have an economically viable forest that is welcoming to biodiversity and useful for soil and water protection, the owner wants to work on natural regeneration and the irregularisation of the stand to obtain a mosaic forest.

The new owner of this Oak high forest wishes to diversify the species in it. 
In order to support a natural regeneration already present on 35% of the surface, the project plans to conserve the current seed trees, to conduct silvicultural work to enhance the existing regeneration and to enrich the stand of various native species to accelerate the regeneration of the massif. 

This diversity will enrich the biodiversity of the area and create new habitats. The recovered trees will be more resistant and the genetic heritage that develops on the plots will be preserved. 

Eventually, the project will increase the capacity of the local fauna and flora and will contribute to the creation of a carbon sink that will help in the fight against global warming.

Le Sauerland est une région de moyenne montagne avec un taux de boisement élevé composé majoritairement de hêtre et d'épicéa. Malheureusement, depuis quelques années, ces essences souffrent massivement de la sécheresse. Même si les effets du réchauffement climatique touchent aussi d'autres essences, il est important de souligner que l'impact de tels phénomènes aurait certainement été moindre si ces forêts avaient été plus diversifiées. Ce projet se réalise dans le cadre d’une campagne ambitieuse de reboisement et de diversification des essences. Trois essences feuillues et résineuses seront plantées. En effet, la diversification des essences permet de favoriser la résistance des peuplements aux maladies et attaques biologiques. Par ailleurs, la diversité d'essences permet un accueil accru de la biodiversité.

Plot located on a 1000 hectares massif (in 2 blocks), half of which was spruce and was completely ravaged by the bark beetle. Other tree species in the vicinity are Douglas fir, pine and oak. Monospecific spruce with bark beetle. Post-bark beetle clear-cutting and replanting planned for diversification.

The Sauerland is a mid-mountain region with a high afforestation rate, mainly consisting of beech and spruce. Unfortunately, in recent years, these species have suffered massively from drought. Although the effects of global warming are also affecting other species, it is important to stress that the impact of such phenomena would certainly have been less if these forests had been more diversified. This project is part of an ambitious reforestation and species diversification campaign. Three deciduous and resinous species will be planted. The diversification of tree species helps to make stands more resistant to disease and biological attacks. In addition, the diversity of tree species helps to encourage biodiversity.

Plot farming in Peru represents the first cause of deforestation, being practiced both by small family farmers and by national and international agribusinesses. Northwest of the country, in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, most of the land of the Lamas, San Martín and El Dorado provinces have been converted into crops and pastures, at the cost of the primary forest that used to take root in the area. Local farmers have been abandoning their plots of land whose overexploited soil had lost fertility. The abandoned farmlands are now largely covered by an invasive fern species. These degraded areas are also particularly prone to fires, which are very common in the Amazon during the summer. Like a vicious circle, these phenomena worsen the degradation of the already weakened soils and decrease water resources.

The Center for Innovation and Sustainable Management (CIGDES) is a Peruvian NGO founded in 2020\. On the spot, the organization favors the development of agroforestry projects based on the introduction of non-timber and fruit indigenous tree species. Since its creation, the CIGDES has managed to plant over 10 million trees. The NGO works hand in hand with several national and international actors involved in the restoration of forests and the implementation of agroforestry systems such as the US AID.

Reforest'Action is partnering with the CIGDES to support small landowners in implementing agroforestry systems. The project, led by the Centro De Innovación Y Gestión Para El Desarrollo Sostenible (CIGDES) in the field, is being carried out simultaneously in three Peruvian provinces: Lamas, San Martín and El Dorado. Started in 2021, it will last for three years. The work involves installing agroforestry systems on abandoned agricultural plots, alongside producers and indigenous communities. The development of agroforestry will result in the restoration of former forests, including soil conditions, while generating additional socio-economic benefits. The Kichwas are an ancestral ethnic group of the Andes found in Peru. Direct descendants of the Inca civilization, their society is essentially based on agriculture and livestock. That's why the trees planted in agroforestry within the framework of the project will participate in the economic development of these Amazon people.

The project takes place in the Peruvian Amazon, in the region of San Martin. Their principals’ objectives are fight against deforestation, preserve endangered tree species, restore degraded ecosystems and reassess more species of native flora. To achieve these the project incentives the restauration through an economic incentive to the beneficiaries and provide, technical support for agroforestry systems.
