Cette saison, les projets seront principalement de plantation de haies simples avec un mélange d'une trentaines d'essences locales et adaptées au sol. Les haies bocagères sont reconnues pour leurs nombreux atouts : elles protègent les terres des vents, limitent l'érosion des sols, favorisent le bien-être animal et enrichissent le paysage. À terme, les plantations permettront d'améliorer les trames vertes sur le territoire du Nord. En fonction des projets, les arbres amélioreront la qualité de vie des troupeaux et protégeront les cultures. Ils contribueront également à la lutte contre le réchauffement climatique grâce au stockage du carbone.

In the Hauts-de-France region, Les Jardins du Cygne, an association specialising in hedge planting, is working with local authorities, associations and private individuals to improve the green corridors in the north of France.

This season saw the launch of a number of projects, mainly involving the planting of single hedges. Around thirty different species of trees have been planted. Hedgerows are recognised for their many benefits: they protect the land from the wind, limit soil erosion, promote animal welfare and enrich the landscape. In the long term, the plantings will help to improve the green corridors in the North. Depending on the project, the trees will improve the quality of life of the herds and protect the crops. They will also help to combat global warming by storing carbon.

Le projet porte sur l'amélioration par éclaircie douce et la diversification par nids d’un taillis constitué majoritairement de hêtres sur un site Natura 2000. En raison de ses tourbières et de la présence d’une riche biodiversité, la valeur environnementale de cette parcelle de montagne dans l'Aude a en effet été reconnue par le réseau européen Natura 2000 établi pour la préservation de la valeur patrimoniale de sites naturels ou semi-naturels. La futaie irrégulière et mélangée vers laquelle s'oriente la sylviculture contribuera à la multifonctionnalité des forêts et participera au développement de l’économie locale à long terme grâce à la production de bois. Ses arbres, propices au développement de la biodiversité, participeront à la lutte contre le réchauffement climatique grâce au stockage du carbone et permettront de diversifier les paysages de la zone d’implantation.

The project involves the improvement by gentle thinning and nesting diversification of a coppice consisting mainly of beech on a Natura 2000 site. Because of its peat bogs and rich biodiversity, the environmental value of this mountain parcel in the Aude department has been recognised by the European Natura 2000 network, which was set up to preserve the heritage value of natural or semi-natural sites. The mixed irregular high forest towards which the silviculture is moving will contribute to the multi-functionality of the forests and help to develop the local economy in the long term through wood production. The trees, which are conducive to the development of biodiversity, will help to combat global warming by storing carbon and diversifying the landscape in the area where the site is located.

Reforest’Action is joining forces with the Ivorian company Agro-Map to support cocoa producers in the forest of Séguié in the Agnéby-Tiassa region, Ivory Coast, in the restoration of the forest and in the creation of agroforestry systems, which will make it possible to reconcile trees and crops in order to maintain a microclimate favourable to the development of agriculture. Over 200,000 are planted on 450 hectares.

The main objectives of the project are the development of agroforestry, the restoration of a classified forest, the preservation of biodiversity and the economic development of the populations. By restoring their environment: the local communities of Agnéby-Tiassa will also improve their food security.

Deforestation in Ivory Coast, if not halted, could lead to the total disappearance of the country's natural forest cover within the next twenty years. The 234 classified forests in the country, including the Séguié forest in the Agnéby-Tiassa region, where our project takes place, have lost more than 70% of their forest cover in half a century. This is due to extensive agriculture and cocoa production, which have gained ground on the primary Ivorian forests, and the unsustainable exploitation of these forests to meet the growing need for firewood. This loss of animal and plant biodiversity is now causing climatic changes throughout the region, in particular a reduction in rainfall and the appearance of increasingly long periods of drought, which often have a fatal effect on the crops of local communities. 

Agro-Map is an Ivorian company specialising in the development of sustainability projects in the agricultural, forestry and environmental fields. Its objective is to reconcile agriculture and forestry in order to maintain a microclimate favourable to the development of agriculture. The Agro-Map team is in constant contact with farmers and builds strong partnerships with local communities.

Reforest'Action is partnering with the Ivorian company Agro-Map to support cocoa farmers in the Séguié forest in restoring the forest and creating agroforestry systems, which will allow them to reconcile the trees with their crops. By restoring their environment, the local communities of Agnéby-Tiassa will also improve their food security and income.

The project takes place in the Peruvian Amazon, in the region of San Martin. Their principals’ objectives are fight against deforestation, preserve endangered tree species, restore degraded ecosystems and reassess more species of native flora. To achieve these the project incentives the restauration through an economic incentive to the beneficiaries and provide, technical support for agroforestry systems.

Historically located around the city of Tarapoto, in the Cordillera Escalera Conservation Area, the project has expanded over the years to encompass three northeastern regions in Peru: San Martín, Loreto and Ucayali. Anchored in the upper Amazon, the project area was originally covered by tropical forests and wetlands. Since the late 20th century, the expansion of agricultural programmes for the cultivation of coffee, cocoa, bananas, maize and manioc, as well as the construction of road infrastructure have led to the massive deforestation of primary forests. The families of the Shawi, Awajun and Quechua ethnic groups are increasingly suffering from the disappearance of natural ecosystems: changes in the rainy season, prolonged droughts and lack of water are becoming commonplace.

Founded in 2004, the Urku Centre, located in Tarapoto, carries out activities to develop Amazonian biodiversity and raise awareness among local communities. Made up of a multidisciplinary team that combines traditional and scientific knowledge, the Urku Centre monitors the production of seedlings in several nurseries, as well as the logistics of the plantations. Alongside local cooperatives, our partner also ensures the recovery and growth of the planted trees.


Initiated in 2015, the project developed in the Peruvian region of San Martín is the first project financed by Reforest'Action at the very heart of the Amazon rainforest. Today, it is no longer about planting trees, but promoting the natural regeneration of the forest. Since 2022, the Urku Centre, which is the project leader on the ground, has been working hand in hand with the Shawi people to fight deforestation and restore degraded ecosystems, without planting. With funding from Reforest'Action, our partner is developing and promoting a range of economic incentives to discourage farming families from further damaging their land through conventional practices or from cutting down the surrounding forest. By allowing nature to take over, many of the region's native trees and plants will be able to regenerate on their own.

Dans le Tarn, ce peuplement composé d’épicéas commun et de Sitka a subi une attaque de scolytes. Ces insectes xylophages se multiplient et s’attaquent à des arbres vivants. Les galeries qu’ils creusent sous l’écorce empêche la sève de circuler, ce qui cause le dépérissement des spécimens touchés. A Brassac, une coupe sanitaire a dû être effectuée pour pallier cette invasion d’insectes. Le projet de reboisement vise donc à restaurer cet écosystème fragilisé. De nouvelles essences sont introduites : mieux adaptées aux conditions climatiques, cette diversité permettra au massif d’être plus résilient face aux attaques biologiques et aux aléas naturels. A terme, la forêt fournira du bois produit de manière durable et contribuera à stocker du carbone, un aspect fondamental dans la lutte contre le réchauffement climatique. Finalement, les arbres plantés assureront également une continuité forestière sur la zone et participeront pleinement à la formation d’un patrimoine forestier résilient.

In the Tarn department, this stand of Norway spruce and Sitka spruce has been attacked by bark beetles. These xylophagous insects multiply and attack living trees. The galleries they dig under the bark prevent the sap from circulating, causing the affected specimens to wither. In Brassac, a sanitary cut had to be carried out to mitigate this insect invasion. The reforestation project aims to restore this fragile ecosystem. New species, better adapted to climatic conditions, are being introduced. This diversity of species will make the massif more resilient to biological attack and natural hazards. Ultimately, the forest will provide sustainably-produced wood and contribute to carbon storage, a fundamental aspect in the fight against global warming. Finally, the trees planted will also ensure forest continuity in the area, playing a full part in the creation of a resilient forest heritage.

Ce projet a prends racine à Palencia, en plein centre de la région autonome de Castilla-y-León (Espagne) . Les enjeux forestiers de cette région sont très importants : la déprise agricole y est très forte, à cause notamment d'un exode rural très important. D'autre part, de nombreux feux de forêts ont sévi ces dernières années, dégradant ainsi profondément la biodiversité, les sols ainsi que les paysages. L'ampleur du projet ayant fortement progressé, les projets s'étendent désormais sur toute la région. L'objectif principal du projet est de restaurer un écosystème forestier diversifié qui avait disparu, pour qu'il puisse délivrer à nouveau de la biodiversité tout en laissant aux populations locales un paysage naturel restauré qui redynamisera aussi bien le tourisme que l'économie. Tout cela se faisant bien sûr dans un contexte de lutte contre les changements climatiques.

Between 2005 and 2016, major fires affected the province of Palancia in northern Spain. Located close to towns, the forests burnt very quickly. Unfortunately, there is a total lack of local resources to restore them.

This project took root several years ago in Palencia, right in the centre of the autonomous region of Castilla-y-León (Spain). The forestry issues in this region are very important: there is a high level of agricultural abandonment, due in particular to a large-scale rural exodus. There have also been a number of forest fires in recent years, causing severe damage to biodiversity, soils and landscapes. The scale of the project has grown considerably, and projects now cover the whole region. The main aim of the project is to restore a diverse forest ecosystem that had disappeared, so that it can once again deliver biodiversity while leaving local people with a restored natural landscape that will revitalise both tourism and the economy. All of this, of course, in the context of the fight against climate change.

Ce projet prend racine en Algarve dans le sud du Portugal où de sévères incendie ont fait rage ces dernières années et qui ont dévasté des centaines de milliers d'hectares. Ici c’est l’épisode de 2018 qui a dévasté les terres où le projet prends place. Il y a toujours eu des feux dans les régions mais ils prennent une ampleurs inédite ces dernières années, accentués par les sècheresses et les canicules récurrente. De plus les pratiques sylvicoles et agricoles intensives participent aussi à la dégradation des milieux et des sols. La tâche est immense afin de reconstituer ces écosystèmes détruits. Mais grâce à la prise de conscience de certaines parties prenantes locales avec qui nous travaillons, propriétaires, gestionnaires et administrations territoriales ont lancé des campagnes massives de reforestation avec une attention toute particulière accordée aux risques incendies.
