The project involves the improvement by gentle thinning and nesting diversification of a coppice consisting mainly of beech on a Natura 2000 site. Because of its peat bogs and rich biodiversity, the environmental value of this mountain parcel in the Aude department has been recognised by the European Natura 2000 network, which was set up to preserve the heritage value of natural or semi-natural sites. The mixed irregular high forest towards which the silviculture is moving will contribute to the multi-functionality of the forests and help to develop the local economy in the long term through wood production. The trees, which are conducive to the development of biodiversity, will help to combat global warming by storing carbon and diversifying the landscape in the area where the site is located.
