In the Maine-et-Loire region, this project is rooted in a landscape with little forest: less than 15% of the land area is forested, compared with an average of 30% in mainland France. The approach is based on the afforestation of two zones, each targeting different issues. In Longeron: the project aims to provide a wooded area for local residents and develop local biodiversity. At the same time, planting and awareness-raising workshops are being organized for children. In St-Maurice-La-Fougereuse: as the plot is no longer under cultivation, trees are being planted on this agricultural wasteland to provide ecological services (climate, biomass storage, biodiversity) and economic benefits by supporting the local timber industry. Finally, these projects will also ensure forest continuity in the area.
