Belorado - Spain
Forest restoration and creation
This project aims to restore degraded vegetation and extend forest cover.

Located in northern Spain, Belorado lies at the heart of a large agricultural region. Droughts, heat waves and increasingly frequent fires are intensifying soil degradation and undermining existing agriculture. Tree planting represents a source of work for farmers, helping to limit the rural exodus.
The project is implemented in partnership with local private and public landowners. Plots of land ranging from a few hectares to several dozen hectares are restored. Soil preparation work is carried out according to each local context, to minimize the impact on the environment. In addition, management is carried out by recognized professionals who are permanently close to the project. Particular attention is paid to the social role of the forest, enabling the employment of a local workforce in all its aspects: nurseries, work, planting, maintenance, the fruit industry, the mushroom industry and the timber industry. Finally, the project is regularly monitored through annual field surveys and follow-up campaigns.
