The project aims to transform the border of a city park into a complete dense urban forest with undergrowth tree plantations. Located within the Jardin Panoramique in the commune of Cachan (Île-de-France region), the project covers the northern edge of this 1.66 hectare garden which provides an exceptional view of the Bièvre valley and Paris. The planted species’ diversity will make it possible to rehabilitate its rather poor wooded vegetation and will contribute to making it a more resilient ecosystem. Several melliferous tree species will also be planted to stimulate pollination. Residents will benefit from an improved environment for their walks and will be able to relax in open garden spaces while enjoying a soothing and refreshing understory. The tiny forest will also act as a sound buffer and will help reduce environmental nuisance from secondary and overhead highways.

Contexte local

The proportion of artificial surfaces in the Île-de-France region is significant and increasing in relation to the high population density. This artificialization reflects a form of environmental degradation and may damage biodiversity.

Actions sur le terrain

The project will be carried out and managed by Cachan’s green spaces department and a technical partner. Residents may also help with planting.
