Résumé du projet
In Belgium's Walloon region, this 8-hectare parcel has been plundered, overexploited and abandoned by its former owner for some twenty years. The overgrown woodland has been completely destroyed and now needs to be restored. The aim of the project is to reforest the area with different species adapted to the region's climatic conditions and soil types. In the long term, this planting will create new habitats that will be more welcoming to biodiversity. The different species of oak planted have a long lifespan, enabling them to store carbon over the long term and thus combat climate change. The diversity of species is also a means of increasing the forest's resilience to natural hazards, insect attacks and other diseases. The preparatory work for the plantation will be carried out by local workers on reintegration schemes. The ultimate aim is to develop a sustainable production of quality wood.
