Résumé du projet
In the Calvados department, the project involves 9 forest plots near the commune of Livarot. Some areas planted with ash trees had been affected by ash blight. This disease, caused by the presence of a pathogenic fungus, spreads through the leaves. Gradually, the diseased tree withers until it dies. To date, the only solution to chalarosis is to sanitarily cut affected trees. As part of the project, the bare areas were reforested with two deciduous species, in order to maintain the area's forest cover. This diversification will make the stands more resilient to further biological attack. In the long term, this perennial forest ecosystem will host a rich biodiversity and help combat global warming by storing carbon in the trees. What's more, the trees planted will also ensure forest continuity in the area.
