Résumé du projet
The Beho wood is part of the Walloon forest in Belgium. The plot involved in the project was previously monocultured, in this case with spruce. Indeed, this project is a perfect example of the problems associated with monoculture, as the previous stand was devastated by bark beetles. Four new species are being introduced to this plot. Increasing the diversity of species in this forest will limit the impact of pests. It will also encourage the development of a biodiversity that will regulate the presence of this pest in the forest. This reforestation project will therefore enable the forest to be diversified, notably through the introduction of deciduous trees that encourage biodiversity. In addition, the planting of species adapted to changing climatic conditions will ensure the sustainability of the forest habitat, in favor of biodiversity. Trees will also store atmospheric carbon, helping to combat climate change.
