Corrèze is a heavily wooded department, with 45% of its surface area covered by forest. This high percentage is due to agricultural abandonment, which encouraged the afforestation of unused land. Douglas fir stands are particularly prevalent, but deciduous trees are still very present and account for the majority of the surface area. These include pedunculate oak and chestnut. This plot in the south-east of the Millevaches Regional Nature Park in Limousin was originally a monospecific stand of Vancouver fir. The firs fell victim to an attack by bark beetles. As the soil was acidic and poor, some of the trees had also become very dry. Over 25% of the stand was affected by bark beetles. A sanitary clear-cut is required. The aim of this project is to restore this degraded ecosystem and encourage biodiversity by introducing new species mixed with a local species, the chestnut.Principales essences :
