Palencia - Spain
Forest restoration and creation
This project took root several years ago in Palencia, right in the centre of the autonomous region of Castilla-y-León (Spain).

Between 2005 and 2016, major fires affected the province of Palancia in northern Spain. Located close to towns, the forests burnt very quickly. Unfortunately, there is a total lack of local resources to restore them.
The planting of species adapted to local conditions, such as chestnut, oak, alder, black pine and maritime pine, will help to recreate dynamic forest ecosystems. In addition, the planting of forest fruit species such as mountain ash and wild cherry will increase the biodiversity potential of the project. The diversity of species introduced will further reduce the risk of fire spreading.
