Résumé du projet
In the Gironde department, in the heart of the Regional natural park Landes de Gascogne, these 5 forest plots extend to a total of 22 hectares. Made up of maritime pines, these monocultures have been highly damaged by the storms - Martin in 1999 and Klaus in 2009. This pushed the previous landowner to do sanitation harvest. The project aims at diversifying the forest by introducing diverse deciduous trees to go with the maritime pines. This process will help fight invasions of pine processionary caterpillars, which happen frequently in the area. It will also protect the forest against climate hazards. Storms and wildfires can have disastrous consequences on forests, especially on monocultures. More resilient, the forest will store carbon in the long run.
