Résumé du projet
On the banks of the Elbro river in Zaragoza, north-east Spain, farmlands are the subject of a reforestation project. These plots are to be converted into forest by the introduction of 10,900 trees. Cork oak is the only species introduced at low density. Silvicultural work will also be carried out to support natural regeneration in the undergrowth. The project area covers a Tuber Melanosporum plantation and a black truffle production activity, and the oaks will contribute to the rural economy. Ultimately, this forest will offer all the ecosystem benefits. As shelters for biodiversity, the trees will help to restore the soil following the former agricultural activity. Finally, the trees will store carbon, helping to combat global warming.
