Résumé du projet
In this massif near Mount Lozère, the spruces that once made up the bulk of the population were dying back. The cause? An attack of bark beetles which decimated the trees in this monoculture. This xylophagous insect burrows under tree trunks to lay its eggs. This causes the affected specimens to die back, wreaking havoc on French forests. In Vialas, the aim is to bring the stand back to life. After harvesting the trees affected by bark beetles, new specimens of various species are planted. This diversity will make the future stand more resilient to future insect attacks. Today, 3 species have been selected for their ability to adapt to the site's climatic conditions. This approach also serves to combat global warming on a large scale, since the trees in the stand will store carbon.Principales essences :
Pinus nigra var. calabrica, Larix decidua
