La ville de Cognac (Charente), accueille désormais une micro-forêt urbaine, sur une ancienne parcelle agricole, grâce à la technique Miyawaki. Inspirée du botaniste japonais Akira Miyawaki, cette méthode permet de faire rapidement pousser une forêt sauvage à partir d’un sol dégradé. L’introduction de diverses essences, dans le cadre d’une plantation dense, permet d’accélérer la croissance des forêts en milieu urbain. Ces 2 800 arbres comportent des essences très diversifiées. Leur présence encourage ainsi le développement d’une biodiversité riche et variée. Cette démarche favorisera également la présence de prédateurs qui s’attaqueront aux nuisibles, dont la présence menace les vignes environnantes. En plus de structurer le paysage, les arbres plantés filtreront l’eau et la pollution, tout en stockant du carbone, participant ainsi à la lutte contre le réchauffement climatique. A terme, les arbres plantés participeront à la formation d’un espace arboré résilient.
