Résumé du projet
Restoring this fire-damaged alpine forest in Piedmont should reduce the risk of future fires. In 2017, a forest fire covered 3,974 ha, 65% of which were in forested areas (35% in SAC protected areas of the Natura 2000 network). The municipality of Oulx, the University of Turin and the Forestry Consortium of the Upper Susa Valley, have implemented active prevention measures to reduce the possibility of new fires. The project intends to promote and facilitate the dynamics of the reconstitution of forest functions by adopting best silvicultural practice, in synergy with post-fire management projects. Other benefits are expected: - Reconstitution of the dominant functions of the forest space (direct protection, biodiversity, landscape); - Increase in the resistance and resilience of the stands to natural and climatic hazards with the inclusion of hardwoods (Maple, Cherry, Ash).

Sur le terrain
Contexte local

This forest, owned by the municipality of Oulx, is managed by the Consorzio Forestale Alta Valle di Susa (CFAVS) through planning and silvicultural procedures. Mainly made up of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.), it also contains, to a lesser extent, species of Larch (Larix decidua Mill.), common Spruce (Picea abies (L.) H. Krast.), Sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus L.), Ash (Fraxinus ecelsiorL.) and Willow (Salix caprea L.). Its main function is general protection. The priority objective of silvicultural procedures is to increase the stability of stands and their structural diversification.
