This project, located in the Toury-sur-Jour commune in the Nièvre region, is part of a succession of afforestation projects on several agricultural plots following the cessation of use of the latter by farmers who have now retired. This phase will be planted with oak, Douglas fir, Scots pine and walnut. At the same time, all existing hedges and isolated trees will be preserved to encourage biodiversity. Ultimately, the trees will help combat global warming by storing carbon.

Contexte local

Agricultural decline, and in particular the reduction in the number of livestock farms in the Nièvre département, means that many meadows have been abandoned. The owner does not wish to let these meadows become overgrown, and has undertaken a gradual reforestation program starting in 2019. These woodlands will be deliberately diversified, and existing trees and hedgerows will be preserved.
