Résumé du projet
This Assisted Natural Regeneration project, in the communes of Les Marêts and Champcenest in Seine-et-Marne, aims to sustainably exploit a diverse and resilient forest. In 1999, the massif suffered a storm that weakened many of its trees. Following this disaster, natural regeneration developed, closing the forest canopy. Today, thinning and pruning are necessary to encourage the development of the best trees. This operation is carried out mechanically using a new machine of reduced size and weight, and therefore more respectful of soil life. The aim is to ensure a productive forest while preserving its biodiversity.
Principales essences :
Quercus petraea, Betula pendula, Populus tremula, Prunus avium, Castanea sativa, Tilia sp., Pseudotsuga menziesii

Sur le terrain
Contexte local

This forest has been looked after by the same forest manager for 20 years. He has seen these areas devastated by the 1999 storm evolve into bramble fields in the 2000s. Perseverance and common sense have enabled him to reconstitute mixed, resilient forest stands by making the most of existing natural regeneration. The project is part of the local economy. Firewood is harvested by a local affouagiste, while logs are sold in partnership with a local operator.
