Résumé du projet
The Volnay project involves planting 1507 trees of 5 different species. The aim of the project is to develop abandoned farmland. The project has multiple benefits. It will link up with another tree species, increasing the refuge area for many animal species. Afforestation of agricultural land allows woodland to be re-established on areas that have been cultivated for a long time. A forest floor can gradually develop, providing a home for a whole range of animal, plant and fungal species. Trees can also help combat global warming by storing carbon.

Contexte local

The Sarthe is a rural département where agriculture plays an important role. Characterised by a dense hydrographic network, the department is criss-crossed by 3 main rivers: the Loir, the Sarthe and the Huisne. Forests, which are sparsely represented in the Sarthe region, are represented by 4 state-owned forests, including the Bercé forest.

Deciduous species account for two-thirds of the region's total standing volume, with oak and chestnut being the main species. Resinous species are mainly represented by maritime pine.
