The aim of this project, located in the east of Belgium, is to afforest an agricultural plot, historically used for grazing cattle. Once the soil has been decompacted, it will be easy to plant the seedlings. It will also be easy to maintain the plantation, which should optimise the growth of the plants and the sustainability of the project. The density of the plantation is high to avoid having to put sheaths around the plants. However, a repellent will be applied for the first 2 years to reduce game pressure. Surrounded by meadows, this future forest will provide shelter for local biodiversity. It will also help combat global warming by storing carbon.

Contexte local

The project was made possible thanks to the personal convictions of the owner, who wanted to convert this pastureland historically dedicated to cattle rearing into a forest that would welcome local biodiversity and store CO2 sustainably with the 3 hardwood species planted.

Actions sur le terrain
  • Preparation of the soil to allow the root system of the young plants to take root;
  • Manual pole planting;
  • Installation of anti-game repellent;
  • Maintenance and follow-up;
  • Replanting if necessary.
