This project, located in Saône-et-Loire, aims to transform an agricultural wasteland covered in brambles into a woodland that can withstand increasingly severe drought. The project will reconnect bocage hedgerows and older woodland, which will benefit the local green network. Comprising 4 species of deciduous and coniferous trees, this stand of 3,100 trees will create numerous shelters for biodiversity, while improving the structure and fertility of the soil. The trees will also help to combat global warming by storing carbon.

Contexte local

This project of just over 2 hectares is located 50km from Châlon-sur-Saône and Mâcon. The parcel straddles the limestone plateaux of the north-east and the north-eastern edge of the Massif Central, more specifically in the Beaujolais and Côtes de Bourgogne wine regions. This is a very agricultural area, with fairly shallow soils that do not retain water very well.

The owner chose to plant species in strips so as not to create blocks of species but to mix them and thus make his stand more resilient to climatic and biotic hazards.
