Daon - France
Forest restoration and creation
This project is taking place in Daon, in the Mayenne region, and follows on from an initial planting project that failed because of the heatwave in 2021.

The département of Mayenne boasts a number of remarkable natural areas, including peat bogs, very special and fragile wetland ecosystems, hedged farmland and forests. The department boasts a rich biodiversity. There are rare plant species, such as carnivorous and poisonous plants.
Mayenne has very little woodland: only 8.5% of its territory is forested, compared with a national average of 31%. It is the third least wooded département in France, after Manche and Vendée. However, it does have large tracts of forest, such as the Concise forest, the Mayenne forest and the Charnie forest. Mayenne's forests are dominated by deciduous trees, particularly oak. They are home to a remarkable range of wildlife, including roe deer, pileated woodpeckers, small woodpeckers and spotted salamanders, as well as special mushrooms such as the fly agaric, known for its bright red cap with white spots and its toxicity!
