Rosiers-d'Égletons - France
Forest restoration and creation
The aim of this project is to recreate a healthy, diverse forest on an old, decaying plot of land in Corrèze.

This project has its roots in the town of Rosiers-d'Égletons in Corrèze, a student and tourist town in the midst of an economic and forestry boom. The forest is a place of serenity that is much appreciated by the local people. A major sawmill is located in the area, and this project will help to ensure that quality timber resources are available nearby.
To begin with, the dying trees are cut down. The plots were then worked in pots to limit soil compaction and overturning. The same technique was used in the surrounding forests and showed clear improvements in plant recovery. The young plantation, surrounded by a healthy, dense forest, will be less exposed to damage from game because it will be less accessible. The owner will nevertheless take a few precautions by protecting the young plants with sheaths and sheep fat repellent in the first few years. Finally, manual clearing is planned for the first few years of maintenance in order to contain competing vegetation.
