Forest restoration and creation
Recent wildfires have taken a massive toll on privately owned forestlands throughout northern California.

From the mountains to the coast, North Carolina is blessed with a rich and diverse forest resource. Forests are the dominant land use in North Carolina, and the state's forest industry is a robust economic engine that provides jobs for thousands of citizens.
Forests and woodlands provide environmental, economic and social benefits to their owners and surrounding communities. In North Carolina, 83% of forestland is privately owned, 17% is publicly owned and less than 1% is owned by tribes. More than three-quarters of the approximately 18.7 million acres of forestland are owned and managed by more than 525,000 non-industrial private forest (NIPF) owners (Bissette and Arney, 2020).
North Carolina's forests are regularly affected by large-scale fires and biotic attacks. The North Carolina Forest Service assists landowners by implementing measures to reduce the risk of wildfire and to identify, manage and reduce threats to forest and ecosystem health.
