Kiischpelt - Luxembourg
Forest restoration and creation
The aim of this project is to restore a plot of bark-affected monospecific spruce trees.

In the north of the “Grand Duchy”, in the Oesling region near Wiltz, this project is rooted in spectacular landscapes due to the region's undulating relief and the presence of numerous forests. Luxembourg has a forest cover of 34.8%, covering some 90,000 hectares. These are spread over four major ecological zones: Oesling, Gutland, Moselle and Minette. The forest is 44.8% public and 55.2% private.
Over the course of the 20th century, Luxembourg underwent a major forestation drive, notably with the mass planting of spruce, a resinous species prized for the technological characteristics of its wood and its ability to grow rapidly. Unfortunately, in recent years, the bark beetle has decimated most of the stands. This is an unprecedented disaster for Luxembourg and European forests.
- Ecosystem restoration after bark beetle attack
- Maintaining forest cover
- Diversification by planting local hardwood species
