Résumé du projet
In 2023, a violent storm ravaged this Italian forest, leaving indelible marks of devastation. With its extreme winds and incessant rain, it uprooted and broke thousands of trees, some of which had been standing for centuries. The forest floor, once a lush tapestry, was transformed into a tangle of debris and splintered wood.
In the aftermath of the storm, the need for an ambitious restoration project became abundantly clear. Such a project involves a series of initiatives over several years, aimed at rejuvenating the forest ecosystem and preserving its future resilience. For this second year of support, the aim is to restore the forest by introducing native and diverse tree species that will recreate habitats for local flora and fauna, improve the structure and fertility of the soil and help combat climate change by storing carbon.

Sur le terrain
Contexte local
The forest within the perimeter of the Milan Golf Club is an essential part of its charm and character. The forest covers an area of around 45 hectares. The old oak and mixed forests help to create an incredible source of biodiversity in one of the country's most densely populated regions. Rich in history, it gives the golf course its heritage value.
However, in July 2023, a violent storm wreaked havoc, causing severe damage to the forest. Despite its resilience, the forest bears the scars of fallen trees and debris.
The forest is open to the public.
Actions sur le terrain
- Restoring the ecosystem: by replanting native species and managing invasive species, the project is helping to restore the natural balance of the forest, improve its biodiversity and strengthen its resilience;
- Habitat preservation: the restoration of natural habitats goes hand in hand with the restoration of a diverse forest, promoting ecosystem health;
- Environmental conservation: the project promotes soil stabilisation and helps to combat erosion;
- Combating climate change: the project contributes to carbon sequestration efforts;
- Improving water quality: forest restoration helps to improve water quality by reducing sediment run-off and filtering pollutants before they reach neighbouring water bodies. Healthy forest ecosystems act as natural buffers, helping to maintain the integrity of aquatic habitats;
- Recreational opportunities ;
- Preservation of cultural heritage;
- Community involvement.
Impact
CLIMAT
Contributes to the mitigation of the greenhouse effect and influences precipitation patterns and the local microclimate.
BIODIVERSITÉ
Preservation of local biodiversity by providing suitable habitats and resources.
EAU ET SOLS
Influences the quality and integrity of the soil-water system, and the cycling of water and nutrients.
SOCIAL & ÉCONOMIQUE
Supports human well-being, by providing resources, income, education, and supporting recreation and heritage.
