Résumé du projet
Located in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, the Collège François Villon, classified as a REP (priority education network), has around 500 pupils. The school is wedged between red-brick apartment blocks and a ring road. This geographical situation not only causes noise and visual pollution, but also creates heat islands in the summer months. The greening project will involve planting trees, shrubs, climbing plants and herbaceous plants in two areas totalling 700 m2. The first area will be located on an untouched lawn, the aim being to create a micro-forest visible to pupils, residents and passers-by. The second area is located in the school's sports area, notably along the Paris ring road. The aim here is to increase the density of a hedge to create a visual and acoustic plant barrier. These plantings will be refuges for biodiversity thanks to the diversity of strata provided for in the planting and will improve the living environment of the pupils by allowing them to benefit from a green setting within their school.

Actions sur le terrain

The 3 main benefits of this project are: improving the visual quality of the environment (currently degraded by the view of the ring road), reducing noise pollution (pupils suffer from car noise) and using the forest to raise awareness among schoolchildren of the benefits of forests.

The contractor responsible for the urban development work is an association that supports the social and professional integration of people in difficulty through green space management projects.

Part of the planting was carried out by around a hundred 6th form pupils from the school. They were also able to take part in discussion workshops to gain a better understanding of the benefits and threats to forests.
