Jünkerath - Germany
Forest restoration and creation
This project, located in the west of Germany, aims to restore a parcel of bark-affected monospecific spruce.

This project has its roots in south-west Germany, not far from the Belgian border, in the Eifel, a very hilly area alternating between forests and farmland.
During the 20th century, the region was heavily forested, in particular with the mass planting of spruce, a resinous species popular for the technological characteristics of its wood and its ability to grow quickly. Unfortunately, the spruce was planted as a monoculture and in recent years the bark beetle has decimated most of the stands. This is an unprecedented disaster for German and European forests.
The planting of this forest in Germany aims to :
- Restore the ecosystem after an attack by bark beetles;
- Maintain the forest cover;
- Diversify the stand by planting 4 softwood and hardwood species adapted to the local context.
