Résumé du projet
This Assisted Natural Regeneration project is taking place in the town of Theillay. The forest concerned is nearing the end of the first coppice rotation. With a heavy presence of game on the property, it is difficult for natural regeneration to establish itself and grow in good conditions. The owner is therefore looking to improve what already exists and replant the forest with more noble species. A total of 8 hectares will be worked to ensure the future of a diverse forest.
Principales essences :
Quercus petraea, Acacia, Sorbus torminalis, Pinus pinaster, Betula sp., Populus tremula
Nombre total d'essences :
6

Sur le terrain
Contexte local

The property is located in the commune of Theillay in the Loir et Cher department. A hunting ground, the forest has never really been managed. What's more, these are first-generation woodlands that were perfectly suited to hunting. The high concentration of game prevents natural regeneration.

Actions sur le terrain

Natural regeneration silvicultural work takes place over several years:

  • Maintenance and work with existing seedlings;
  • Island enrichment planting in areas where there are no natural seedlings;
  • Protection of natural regeneration;
  • Replanting in targeted areas;
  • Formation pruning: silvicultural intervention to remove forks or large branches that compete with the trunk. The aim is to correct a training defect by restoring a tree's straightness and solidity;
  • Depressing/balivage: silvicultural intervention aimed at reducing the density of plants of targeted species in young stands, in favour of well-shaped stems.
