Résumé du projet
This reforestation project concerns an abandoned plot of land in São Martinho das Amoreiras, in the south of Portugal. The aim is to restore local biodiversity by planting the entire plot, while preserving the old oaks already present. In addition to the cork oak, other species typical of the Mediterranean region will be planted, including arbutus and umbrella pine. The project aims to strengthen the ecological resilience of the area, while promoting sustainable soil management and the long-term production of natural resources such as cork, as well as long-term carbon storage. The indigenous species and their diversity will make the forest more resistant to biotic and climatic hazards, an important issue in this region at risk of fire.

Contexte local

The region of São Martinho das Amoreiras, in the south of Portugal, is characterised by semi-arid landscapes with Mediterranean forests. The local forests are dominated by cork oaks and pines, with typical scrubland vegetation. This region faces challenges linked to drought and desertification, exacerbated by climate change. Forest fires are a major threat, requiring sustainable management practices and restoration efforts to preserve these fragile ecosystems.
