Assisted natural regeneration
The aim of this project is to convert a poor forest into an irregular mixed forest capable of adapting to changing climatic conditions.

In the region, clear-cutting (of chestnut trees for the production of stakes or of coniferous trees for the production of timber) is very common. The surface area of these clear-cuts varies between 1 ha and 5 ha in a single block, depending on the fragmentation of the forest property. The forest concerned by this project has existed for over 70 years (and even 200 years for some plots). This new silvicultural management will enable it to be preserved for many years to come.
The work is selective and localised, spread over several years and will last for the entire life of the forest. Initially, the conversion of this massif into a continuous and diversified cover involves an inventory of future stems and mature trees in order to plan the location of senescence islands. The trees are then marked with a view to routing, depressing and partitioning in order to recreate a forest design consistent with production objectives. This silvicultural work will be carried out on a non-wood basis, which will increase the forest's reserve of dead wood. Finally, the trees of the future will be pruned to guarantee their proper growth and the quality of the wood that will be produced.
