Résumé du projet
The aim of this Assisted Natural Regeneration project in the Doubs region is to ensure the long-term survival of a forest covering more than 14 hectares. Current natural dynamics would lead to a recolonisation mainly made up of beech and Norway spruce. These species are sensitive to climate change. By adding more resistant species (cormier, black pine, bird's-eye maple), the resilience of the stand is ensured, as is its capacity to store carbon over the long term. This work will make it possible to avoid clear-cutting, and therefore a major destabilisation of the ecosystem, by planting a variety of species in gaps.

Sur le terrain
Contexte local

This project is located 20 kilometres south of Montbéliard, on limestone rock bars. The forest lies in a transition zone between the semi-continental and mountain climates.

Actions sur le terrain

In the two plots selected, the manager and owner wish to remove the dying beech trees that are dangerous for management and to integrate species that are more resistant to climate change into the gaps.

Impact
CLIMAT
Contributes to the mitigation of the greenhouse effect and influences precipitation patterns and the local microclimate.
BIODIVERSITÉ
Preservation of local biodiversity by providing suitable habitats and resources.
EAU ET SOLS
Influences the quality and integrity of the soil-water system, and the cycling of water and nutrients.
SOCIAL & ÉCONOMIQUE
Supports human well-being, by providing resources, income, education, and supporting recreation and heritage.
