Josat - France
Forest restoration and creation
This reforestation project, located in Josat in the Haute-Loire region, aims to restore a degraded forest following a sanitary cut of the coniferous stand affected by dieback.

Haute-Loire (43) has a large forest cover (40% of the territory) with mixed forests of beech and fir in the mountains, as well as oak and coniferous forests depending on local conditions. Its forestry sector is key to the local economy, with high levels of timber production. However, climate change and pressure from ungulates are affecting natural regeneration. Diversification of tree species and sustainable management are essential to strengthen the resilience of the forests.
The silvicultural work for this project is carried out in several stages:
- Site preparation;
- Swathing;
- Planting;
- Regarnishing in years 1 and 2 if necessary;
- Clearing in the first 2 years.
