Forest restoration and creation
This reforestation project at Saint-Éloy-la-Glacière, in the Puy-de-Dôme department, concerns a forest plot formerly dominated by a monospecific stand of spruces, which had been seriously affected by bark beetles (wood-eating insects).

The department of Puy-de-Dôme, which takes its name from a dormant volcano in the Puys chain in the Massif Central, boasts some exceptional landscapes that amaze many hikers every year. The area is quite wooded, with 255,000 ha of forest, corresponding to an afforestation rate of 32% (slightly higher than the national average of 31%). This forest has a high economic value, with the forestry and wood industry employing 10,000 people in Auvergne. Puy-de-Dôme is home to almost 40% of the region's timber companies.
