Résumé du projet
This project aims to restore the natural dynamics of a forest stand and serve as a training ground for professionals. Located in the Cévennes National Park, it presents numerous challenges in terms of biodiversity and landscape conservation. An ecological assessment has identified the presence of protected species such as the black woodpecker, Tengmalm's owl and Lobaria pulmonaria lichen. Today, the forest is mainly composed of conifers (pine, spruce and fir), but there are also scattered deciduous trees (beech, oak, chestnut, etc.). Using the Continuous Cover Forestry (CCF) method, the owners want to irregularise the structure, improve the quality of the wood produced and diversify the species present, while supporting natural regeneration and enriching areas where it is insufficient. The site is set to become a showcase for best practices and an active experimentation zone.
Principales essences :
Pinus nigra subsp. laricio, Picea abies, Fagus sylvatica, Castanea sativa, Betula pendula subsp. pendula, Sorbus aucuparia, Abies alba, Pinus sylvestris, Tilia cordata, Quercus petraea
Nombre total d'essences :
14

Contexte local

This project is located in the Massif Central, specifically in the heart of the Cévennes National Park. It is part of a broader initiative to convert nearly 170 hectares of forest to SMCC management. This project is the first step, establishing a detailed silviculture plan for local timber production, but also with a ‘citizen-focused’ approach, hosting cultural and artistic events.

Actions sur le terrain

The first step is to identify the work to be carried out and then mark the trees accordingly. Trees of biological interest are also inventoried. In the second phase, various tasks will be carried out in the forest in accordance with SMCC principles (e.g. protection of existing regeneration, enrichment planting, selection of future stems, clearing, etc.).

Impact
CLIMAT
Contributes to the mitigation of the greenhouse effect and influences precipitation patterns and the local microclimate.
BIODIVERSITÉ
Preservation of local biodiversity by providing suitable habitats and resources.
EAU ET SOLS
Influences the quality and integrity of the soil-water system, and the cycling of water and nutrients.
SOCIAL & ÉCONOMIQUE
Supports human well-being, by providing resources, income, education, and supporting recreation and heritage.
