- Type of project: support for natural regeneration
Context
In the south-west of the Alpes de Hautes-Provence department, between the Luberon and Verdon regional nature parks, these 9.20 hectare forest plots are located in the Ardène Priory forest. This massif holds a very rich biodiversity thanks to large stumps and decaying wood that host microhabitats. Following a first thinning in 2018, the stand shows signs of natural regeneration. Today, preserving its diversity is essential to avoid trees from being clearcut. This assisted natural regeneration project will therefore help fortify the massif in a natural way.
Silvicultural operations are carried out to encourage specifically the development of young deciduous trees. This diversity will make the forest healthier, more resilient and favourable to the biodiversity and the environment. It will also make a positive impact on the timber production. In the long term, the trees will store carbon, helping to fight climate change.
