Project description

Participate in the reforestation of this declining plot of land, with Reforest'Action and the Office national des forêts!

The project at a glance

Number of trees to be planted: 5,401
Area of the plantation: 5.11 hectares
Species planted: sessile oak, chequer tree, cherry, hornbeam, sycamore maple
Project type: restoration of declining stands

Background

These plots are located in the municipality of Oslon and cover 5.11 hectares. They are inhabited by Douglas fir, which is not adapted to the local context and is weakening, and by ash, which was largely decimated by chalarose disease. The Office national des forêts has therefore decided to reforest the area, using species that are not widely available locally. Some of the species chosen are honey-bearing: the nectar they produce is used by bees to produce honey. Afforestation will thus favour local beekeeping activity.

This tree-planting project will create a real forest ecosystem. The establishment of deciduous species will provide biodiversity with numerous habitats and resources. The more vigorous stand will also be less sensitive to climatic hazards, diseases and parasites. The trees will provide quality wood, sustainably storing atmospheric carbon.
